approved since the implementation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It is also the first major
project completed after the release of the Overall Plan for Deepening Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Comprehensive Cooperation towards the World in
Nansha, Guangzhou.
This university breaks the traditional division of "departments" in universities and adopts a new academic structure of "hub" and "domain". It is committed
to becoming the world's first interdisciplinary university and will explore the path for higher education reform worldwide.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is a brand new school with a new campus and new faculty and students. They
will write a new chapter on the land of Nansha, the core of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
The opening ceremony officially kicked off with the majestic national anthem of the People's Republic of China.
Guangdong Provincial Party Secretary Li Xi attended the event, and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference Leung Chun ying and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Li Jiachao delivered speeches via
video. Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng and Governor of Guangdong Province Wang Weizhong attended the event on site and delivered speeches.
